Grapat

Inspired by Children and Nature

Grapat is a small family project that came to life when the founders, Jordi and Casiana left the city to live in the beautiful natural environment at the foothills of the Pyrenean mountains of Catalunya in Spain. Inspired by watching their three year old daughter at play Grapat believe that play should be respected and protected, and children given space and silence to create moments of true play.

Free play, loose parts, open and unstructured material allow children to play and express from their own internal needs. Grapat materials invite the creation of diverse worlds and free imagination.

Beauty & Colour

Inspired by Children and Nature.

Grapat work the colour with true affection, the tones, how they degrade, how they change.  They are inspired by the colours within nature and how they connect us to the seasons.  They also understand that colour connects us to our own emotions and to all that happens to us in our internal world.

Each piece of Grapat is lovingly painted by hand.  Working with non-toxic water-based dyes they allow the wood and its nuances to shine through.

All Grapat finishes are made with waxes and oils of vegetable origin.

All our materials comply with the safety regulations of the EN71-1/2/3.

Caring for people & the world

The wood Grapat use comes from sustainable forests. Wood is the source that inspires Grapat daily. “It is robust, soft and hard, it is warm, it sounds good and it smells good.”

The cloth bags that are included in some of the Grapat products come from big companies that discard material when they find a small defect. Grapat remove those defects and giving them a second life.

From 2019 Grapat led the way in the toy industry by eliminating 100% the use of plastic from their packaging.

Grapat work as an extended family, employing people local to their own community; and collaborate with foundations that take care of people with Special Needs who help them with their packaging tasks.
